Artefact - This is an extract from the 'Linen on the green book' and give details of Pte J. Douthart and others who were awarded the Military Medal for Bravery. The act of bravery is not known. This gives a closer view of Kilrea War Monument.

Contributor's father joined up around 16 or 17 years in the 10th RIF and was a Despatch Rider. During this time he competed in an army cross country race and won, the medal was presented by the Lt. Col. Of the regiment. He did survive the war, but had been gased which caused damage to his lungs, after the war he worked as an engine beetler in Clarkes Factory. He was married and had five of a family and died due to injuries sustained in the war 27th July 1947. During the war Pte J. Douthart MM from Tamlaght won the Military Medal for bravery, the act of bravery is not known. His name is on the Kilrea War Monument, this monument was built in 1925 and has 230 names of the men who served in World War I, of which 40 were killed in action.
