The renowned scholar of historical justice and reconciliation, Professor Elazar Barkan of Columbia University (pictured right), will address a conference on ‘The memory of the past in post-conflict societies’, to be hosted by the Institute in QUB on Tuesday, 29 April. Professor Barkan’s work on the role of history in contemporary society and the contribution of scholars to conflict resolution and reconciliation, is especially pertinent for Northern Ireland in the context of efforts to deal with the past and the decade of historic centenaries. The conference will also address commemoration, truth recovery and public history.
