More writers and poets fought at the Somme than in any other battle in history. Taken together with the visual artists and musicians who developed work in response to the Somme, the battle has a crucial significance for art in the 20th century. In this special event at the Ulster Museum, the creative work of these artists will be used to see the Somme in a new light.

The Prodger by Tina Noonan
Saturday 1st October 2016 at 8pm
The Craic Arts Centre, Coalisland

2016-10-01 # The Prodger by Tina NoonanOne man’s true story. An Irish Catholic Veteran. An amputee. And a survivor of The Somme.

On a stormy night in Lismore in 1964, a wiry old man takes refuge in a local pub. But he’s barred on account of his foul tongue. And there’s been a local murder. As the banter heats up, he can’t hold back any more: the Prodger will roar his tale...

Now on tour across the country as part of the Centenary Commemorations and performing to critical acclaim, this one-act play has been described as ‘vivid, brilliant...revisioning history’ and ‘akin to the high theatricality and drama of Irish playwrights such as O’Casey. It features a stellar Irish cast including Brendan Conroy, Pat Nolan, Frank Melia and Joe Moylan.

‘The most moving account of WW1 I have ever experienced’
‘The voice of The Prodger is riveting, and it’s our voice.’ Tom Hartley, Historian and former Sinn Fein Mayor of West Belfast.
