Dr Timothy Bowman is Senior Lecturer in modern British military history at the University of Kent. His publications include: The Irish Regiments in the Great War: Discipline and Morale; Carson's Army: The Ulster Volunteer Force, 1910-22: and The Edwardian Army: Manning, Training, and Deploying the British Army, 1902-1914 (with Mark Connelly). He is currently working on a study of the volunteer forces in Ireland 1912-16.
Dr William Butler is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Kent, where he also completed his PhD in 2014. His book, entitled The Irish Amateur Military Tradition in the British Army, 1854-1945 was published in November 2016. He has been heavily involved with the First World War commemorations, participating in the BBC World War One at Home Roadshow and recording for BBC Radio Ulster, and currently runs a project at the University of Kent which seeks to engage school children with the First World War. He is also writing a book, co-authored with Timothy Bowman and Michael Wheatley, on recruiting in Ireland during the First World War. His next project will look at the role and experiences of the Irish soldier in the British Empire.
Michael Foy is a former Head of History at Methodist College in Belfast and Tutor in Irish History at Queen's University, Belfast. He is the author of The Easter Rising (with Brian Barton): Tom Clarke: the true leader of the Easter Rising and Michael Collins's Intelligence War.
Ian Montgomery is a former archivist at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. He is co-chair of the Antrim and Down Branch of the Western Front Association.
