Public Reocrd Office of Northern Ireland

PRONI is delighted to host the launch of A Long Week In March: The 36th (Ulster) Division in the German Spring Offensive, March 1918 by Michael James Nugent. This will be held on Thursday 28 February 2019 at 7 pm.

During the titanic Battle of the Somme, no other Division came close to the successes of the brave officers and men of the 36th (Ulster) Division. On the 21st of March 1918, bloodied and bruised after their valiant actions at the Somme in 1916 and at Messines, Langemarck and Cambrai in 1917, the Ulster Division faced near annihilation when they bore the brunt of the Spring Offensive.

Bent, beaten, but not broken, the 36th fought with uncanny courage and determination, at the cost of many lives. This book tells their story and explores how their actions on that week prepared them for the final days of the Great War.
