Sharing Community Research during the Centenary of WW1 at the Ulster Museum
On Monday 19th June, Living Legacies played host to a number of researchers, academics and funding bodies who shared their knowledge and experience in commemorating the centenary of WW1 and its heritage in Northern Ireland.
Held at the Ulster Museum, Belfast, the WW1 Today event celebrated the wide variety of projects that have engaged communities in exploring the legacy of WW1. Upcoming Events
Poppies, “Weeping Window” at the Ulster Museum
The Weeping Window exhibition is a cascade of handmade ceramic poppies seen pouring from a high window at the museum to the ground below. This sculpture is by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, marking the centenary of the outbreak of war. NMNI have organised a programme of events to complement the Weeping Window targeting adults, families and children.

Welsh memorials to the Great War
This is a talk given by Living Legacies CI Dr Gethin Matthews (of Swansea University) at a day-conference held in Cardiff in April 2017 on the theme ‘Myth, Memory and Military encounters – National Remembering’s of First World War Battles’.
The event, kindly co-sponsored by the Canadian Studies in Wales Group and the Living Legacies 1914-18 WW1 Engagement Centre, was held at the time of the centenary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which is widely commemorated as a Canadian victory.

Latest News
Project Officer, Heather Montgomery visits Belgium.
Living Legacies’ Project Officer Heather Montgomery had the honour of being a visiting lecturer at the ‘Europe Inside Out’ Summer School held in the University of Leuven. Students attended from India, South Korea, South Africa, Germany Russia, Romania and more. Heather discussed the Irish involvement in the First World War from both the historical and archaeological perspective in addition to helping co-ordinate a field trip to Flanders.

Living Legacies Workshop Models
Living Legacies 1914-18 offers WW1 community research projects practical support and advice on a range of topics, drawing on our areas of research expertise. We have developed a series of workshops on particular research topics, which can be viewed using the link below. These workshops are available at a modest cost to your project and are delivered to your group by Living Legacies researchers and the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis, who are experienced in working with community groups on WW1 heritage projects.
