Legacies of the First World War Festival: Voices of Peace? Heritage, community, opportunity

5 & 6 July 2019
Cardiff (Cardiff West Community High School, Temple of Peace, Wales Millennium Centre)

Legacies of the First World War Festival is hosted by the Arts & Humanities Research Council WW1 Engagement Centres.

The Voices of Peace Festival in Cardiff on July 5 & 6 will be dedicated to reflecting on how universities can co-create and share knowledge with communities and schools and will explore how university/school partnerships can make a difference to local communities.

A series of panel discussions, informal workshops, film screenings, and performances will provide an informal and friendly forum for stimulating conversations around co-produced knowledge and critical responses to history and heritage.

We welcome community organisers, heritage and creative workers, academics, local historians, and members of the public.

The full programme and registration information will be available in early May.

IWM is setting up a new War and Conflict Subject Specialist Network (SSN), to build capacity, connections and confidence in the cultural heritage sector.

Building on the success of the First World War Centenary Partnership, the SSN is open to not-for-profit organisations and groups who look at stories linked to conflict, from the First World War to the present day.

We're currently preparing exciting content to share with you:

  • A dedicated website and Twitter feed, to share news and updates
  • Free to download resources, including historical timelines and digital assets such as photographs and film
  • Helpful guides to support your work, such as tips for collections management
