England

  1. Historic England Military and Defence Heritage Site. 
    The site provides information on Historic England's current military heritage projects.  Specifically aimed at researchers of contemporary and conflict archaeology, and those interested in military heritage. 
  2. Elmet Archaeology.
    A professional archaeology company, which works closely with community groups to help them explore archaeology through project work and engagement activities including WW1, based projects.
  3. World War One – National Events Calendar led by the Imperial War Museum. 
    Includes information on current projects, local and regional partners, and presents an international programme of events and online resources.
  4. British Army Museums. 
    Help to locate your nearest army museum, research your ancestry and discover Britain’s military heritage.

    Useful for researching naval collections and manuscripts.

  7. The War Memorials Listing project
    In 2014, to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, Historic England embarked upon a five-year project to add 2,500 war memorials to the List.
  8. Imperial War museums
    The IWM is compiling the War Memorials Register - the comprehensive national register of UK war memorials and the names of the individuals they commemorate. We currently hold records for almost 70,000 memorials in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
  9. Council for British Archaeology's Home Front Legacy Project
    The Home Front Legacy project helps local communities identify and map the remains of the First World War (WW1) across the United Kingdom. Using the tools we provide, local people can document and preserve our stories, and vulnerable remains, for future generations.


Scotland

  2. RCAHMS. 
    By Historic Environment Scotland, the public body set up to investigate, care for and promote Scotland’s historic environment. Provides information on, archives and researching; grants and funding and advice and support. 
  3. The Stobs Military Camp, Scottish Borders Project. 
    Useful for those interested in the archaeology of the military landscape; including the military training landscape and POW camp.


Wales

  1. Project Zero.
    Led by History Matters, Wales. Developing and encouraging a greater understanding of the use of the Airship during the First World War period.

  3. Wales Remembers 
    The official site for information on how Wales will mark the centenary of the First World War in Wales. It provides a focal point for information on the latest news, projects, events and signposting services for the programme of commemoration, which will take place in Wales from 2014 to 2018.
