Stornoway Isle of Lewis, 26th September 2019, Kinloch Historical Society, Balallan, Isle of Lewis 27-28 September 2019Celebrate the centenary of the 1919 Land Settlement (Scotland) Act, a landmark but under appreciated piece of legislation that made a huge impact on Highland land, landownership and society. Opening with a celebratory dinner, the event will explore the significance and legacy of the 1919 Act through talks, posters, displays and filed trips. These will show that this was not an isolated response to war and changing times but was part of a global impetus aimed at the restoration of a sense of balance in social relations around land and ownership.
