On this day, 15 September 1940, now known as ‘Battle of Britain Day’, the most decisive fighting of the Battle of Britain took place. The Luftwaffe launched another massive assault, carrying out air raids on London, Portland and Southampton. However, after re-grouping following a change in German tactics, the RAF were in a strong position to meet the threat, resulting in an overwhelming defeat for the Luftwaffe.
The Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show brings to life Duxford’s finest hour as an important Second World War fighter station defending Great Britain from aerial attack in 1940. Flying springs into action next week on Saturday 23 – Sunday 24 September and don't forget, kids go free.
