World War I Models

BAVARIAN GERMAN INFANTRY UNIFORM

This elaborate Bavarian German Infantry uniform was used at the start of the war, but the realities of trench warfare led to changes to a more practical version. Germany fought the war on both eastern and western fronts as well as in their overseas colonies.

GERMAN MEDIC UNIFORM

The german Medic carried wire cutters and a shovel to help him reach the wounded as well as treating them with basic first aid supplies such as tourniquets and bandages. For his own protection, he wears an ammunition pouch and M16 helmet.

BRITISH BRODIE HELMET

Khaki Brodie style helmet with leather lining. Chin strap and a rubber ring insert for shock absorption. Thomas Firth & Sons Ltd of Sheffield produced these helmets for the British, American and Canadian troops between 1915 and 1919. this particular helmet was reused during the Second World War by civilian forces on the Home Front.

NURSE'S UNIFORM

Margret AnnMcCurry wore this uniform while serving as a nurse during the First World War. Nurses under pressure of war had to deal with horrendous injuries and perform medical duties as best they could, often with poor or disrupted supply lines.

AMERICAN DOUGHBOY UNIFORM

The Entry of the American army into the war in 1917 helped to mitigate the need for conscription in Ireland. This"doughboy" uniform consists of an engineer regiment tunic, gas mask, campaign hat, shovel, water bottle, mess tins and grenade vest.
